Dancie is a PhD researcher in the Department of Communication at Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Her doctoral research examines how invasive species discourse in Chinese-language social media sorts nonhuman animals — and, by extension, people — into categories of belonging and threat.
Before turning to academic research, she spent over a decade in media and brand strategy in China, working with domestic and international clients. That earlier work — building narratives for audiences — now shapes how she reads them critically.
She holds a master's degree in International Studies on Media, Power and Difference at UPF. The thread running through both — who gets to speak, who gets misread, who gets called invasive — continues into her current research.
